Built in 1824 by Nathan Starr to fill an 1823 contract of 4,020 Model 1817 Common Rifles. Standard length 36" round barrel with 7 groove rifling for .54 caliber balls. Barrel proofed at breech "US/AR/P" and dated on tang "1824". Blade front sight and square notch rear. Reconverted flint configuration. Lock plate marked "US/N. STARR" and in vertical arc near tail "1824/MIDN CON.". Full length walnut stock mounted with 3 spring retained iron barrel bands, typical trigger guard with protruding tang, oval patch box, and "US" marked butt plate. Faint cartouche stamped on left of stock near side plate. Complete with incorrect iron ram rod. CONDITION: Good. Iron components exhibit a smooth brown patina throughout. Some markings soft. Stock has some expected wear and impressions, in addition to burn out and a small section reattached with pins at the tang. Good bore showing well defined rifling. BAS
