Harpers Ferry US M1842 percussion musket dated 1848. 42" round barrel in .69 caliber smoothbore with brass blade front sight on Wickham style front barrel band. Barrel is marked with "V / P / (eagle's head)" proof on left side above woodline. Trumpet head full length ramrod is present and possibly the original. Lock is marked with US armory eagle ahead of cock with "HARPERS / "FERRY" / 1848" behind cock. 1 piece plain walnut stock in 3 barrel band musket configuration complete with US marked military buttplate. No cartouche visible, but stock is hand marked "A T H 3 3" on left side near butt. Complete with M1842 socket bayonet. CONDITION: Good, with metal assemblies turned an even brown patina overall with heavy corrosion near breech area from "burnout". Stock is very good as sanded and refinished with handling marks throughout. Action is tight and crisp with 2 distinct stops at half and full cock. Bore is dark with moderate abrasion. Bayonet is very good. TON
