German pre-WWII Merkel over-under shotgun "Bockdoppelflinte" marked "GEBRUDER MERKEL, SUHL" and "F. STAMPFLI WAFFEN, LUZERN" in 20 guage. Markings on the barrels are "BOEHLER STAHL", "Weichlot", serial number of "56350", "NITRO" proof, "20", "562", "U" proof, "Crown over S" (Suhl), etc. Serial number of "56350" is also present on the receiver and inside of forearm. No US import marks. Blued matted barrel with front bead sight. Receiver and tang have case hardening, trigger guard is blued, and both have light engraving. Shotgun has dual triggers, side safety selector, and breech unlocking lever. Walnut stock and forearm have grip checkering. Forearm is removed via a release lever. Sling swivels are present on barrel and stock. Pachmayr butt pad has been added, and there is a remnant of the Swiss importer's sticker on the stock. CONDITION: Rifle is overall excellent, and retains 90-95% of its blued finish and 75-80% of its case hardening. Walnut stock has a half inch dent on the left, and both the stock and forearm forearm have light dings and scratches. Stock and forearm have been refinished, and that newer finish is missing/ damaged over 25% of their surfaces. Receiver has traces of the stock's recent finish. Bores are bright and shotgun is mechanically sound. WEZ
