Lot consist of: (A) Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor single shot rifle. Made 1880. "MODEL/1883(eagles head/US" marked breech block. "V/P/(Eagles Head)" proofs on the chamber. Standard markings on the right side of the lock plate. No cartouche on the left side of the stock. Circled "P" proof on the wrist of the stock. There is an un-known jagged line on the right side of the stock. "Standard blade front sight with "R" marked 1873 pattern rear sight. Metal finish looks to be original forming a brown patina in some areas. Stock has a varnished finish. Smooth metal butt plate. CONDITION: Metal retains 60% of its finish with wear and some brown patina forming on the bands and edges. Stock has handling marks and scratches. Bore is clean with strong rifling. Hammer is tight. Mechanically inoperable as the chamber is damaged. (B) Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor single shot rifle. Made 1879. "U.S./MODEL/1873" marked breech block. "V/P/(Eagles Head)" proofs on the chamber. Standard markings on the right side of the lock plate. No cartouche on the left side of the stock or circled "P" proof. "US" marked butt plate. Standard blade front sight with no rear sight. Metal finish looks to be original with heavy surface rust in most areas. Stock has a light oil finish. Smooth metal butt plate. Ramrod is absent. CONDITION: Metal retains none of its original finish with heavy wear and surface rust in most areas. Stock has numerous handling marks, dents and scratches. Bore is heavily frosted with fair rifling. Hammer is tight. Mechanically fine. JWA
