Rare Remington Rolling Block breechloading carbine made for the New York State Militia. Of the 21,000 New York contract rifles and carbines, only 1500 were carbines. 22" round barrel chambered in .50-70 Government with 2 leaf flip up carbine rear sight graduated to 500 yards and blade front sight. Type 3 Number 1 style Remington Rolling Block action with stepped sides, rotary extractor, staple with saddle ring, and hammer with safety notch, all consistent with the New York State Militia contract. Hammer and breechblock are checkered in 3 pointed shields. 2 piece walnut stock and forearm with single barrel band and military buttplate. Stock bears "HBH" cartouche in a ribbon denoting inspection by armory sub-inspector H.B. Hart. CONDITION: Excellent for its age, with nearly all of the original bluing remaining on barrel with patina mixing in and light handling marks and wear throughout. Stock and forearm are excellent with scattered heavy handling marks and cartouche sharp. Mechanically fine. Bore is bright with light abrasion toward muzzle and crisp rifling. A high condition rare military rolling block carbine worthy of a fine martial rolling block collection. TON
