Smith percussion sporting rifle manufactured by Poultney & Trimble with 22" octagon barrel in .36 caliber with handmade disk type rear peep sight, German silver blank in rear sight dovetail, and globe type hooded front sight. Walnut forearm featuring pewter mount and pewter nosecap. Checkered finely figured walnut stock with cheeckpiece and complete with rifle buttplate. CONDITON: Very good, with original finishes turned an even brown patina with light high edge wear and light freckling throughout. Frame is a gray patina with minor freckling throughout. Handmade rear sight is brazed together. Forearm and stock are very good as lightly cleaned with minor handling marks and checkering sharp. Action is loose from wear but appears to function properly. Bore is lightly frosted with visible rifling. An interesting Smith carbine made with the commercial market in mind that was probably a very handy hunting or target rifle. TON
