Lot consist of: (A) Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor single shot rifle. Made 1881. "U.S./MODEL/1873" marked breech block. "V/P/(Eagles Head)" proofs on the chamber. Standard markings on the right side of the lock plate. Boxed "SWP/1881" inspectors cartouche on the left side of the stock. Circled "P" proof on the wrist of the stock. "US" marked butt plate. Standard blade front sight with "R" marked 1873 pattern rear sight. Metal finish looks to be original forming a brown patina in most areas. Stock has a light oil finish. Smooth metal butt plate. Ramrod is present. CONDITION: Metal retains 50% of its original finish with wear and brown patina in areas. Some light surface rust on the trigger guard. Stock has minor handling marks, dents and scratches. Bore is lightly frosted, but retains strong rifling. Hammer is tight. Mechanically fine. (B) Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor single shot rifle. Made 1885, this rifle has an 1884 marked breech block. "U.S./MODEL/1884" marked breech block. "V/P/(Eagles Head)" proofs on the chamber. Standard markings on the right side of the lock plate. Illegible boxed cartouche on the left side of the stock. "US" marked butt plate. Standard blade front sight with "R" marked Buffington rear sight. Metal finish looks to be original forming a brown patina in most areas. Stock has a light oil finish. Smooth metal butt plate. Includes an incorrect socket bayonet numbered "Z100". CONDITION: Metal retains 60% of its original finish with most areas forming a brown patina. Stock has a few dings and scratches, but is excellent overall. Bore is frosted with fair rifling. Hammer is tight. Mechanically fine. Bayonet is fair with areas of cleaned pitting and surface rust. JWA
