US Air Force A-7 Corsair II cockpit trainer, designed and used to train USAF A-7 pilots and familiarize them with the controls of the aircraft. These instrument trainers are similar in construction to egress trainers, which were designed and used to train A-7 pilots on how to egress from the Corsair II, however egress trainers are very barren in terms of the interior, since they do not require full instrumentation, as they are only used to teach pilots how to use the ejection seat. This example is complete with instruments, rudder pedals, seat, flap controls, gyros, and control stick. Each instrument is carefully labeled and detailed, as the layout is constructed to mirror the cockpit of a genuine A-7 Corsair II. The electronic components were manufactured by the Hughes Aircraft Corporation and are dated 1975 on the specification label. There are also several labels that are dated 1968. This example is painted US Navy colors and named to the fictional Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, who never piloted A-7s, but rather flew F-14s and F/A-18Es for the US Navy in the popular Top Gun movies. CONDITION: The cockpit could use a thorough cleaning, as it has not seen much action since these jets were retired from US service in 1993 and there is a decent layer of dust on the panels. Most switches appear to function properly, while some are stuck in place. The trainer is complete with the master panel electrical unit and IMFK electrical unit, which are accessed through a hatch in the front, however all of the cables have been cut and none of the electronics function. The paint is rough in some areas and exhibits chips and scratches but is very clean overall. This is a great example of a Vietnam War era trainer and is a must have for a military aviation enthusiast. Overall good. JLD
