Manufactured 1988 as per accompanying letter by L.A.R for Great Northern Guns as 1 of 20 Toklat specials, named after a location and river in Denali Park, Alaska which derived its name from the Tanana word for "cloudy white water". The word has also been used in reference to Alaska bears. Classic configuration of the Grizzly as a derivative of the 1911 pistol reinforced to shoot .45 Win Mag, essentially a lengthened .45 ACP. Sights are a red insert front sight, rear sight with square notch and highlighted with "T" style line up. Right side of slide with "ALASKA SERIES TOKLAT SPECIAL" with a bear logo, left side with LAR logo, and "GRIZZLY WIN MAG". Squared off trigger guard, serrated narrow hammer, safety, extended slide release, magazine release, short trigger. Lengthened grip safety, mainspring housing, sans lanyard loop, with checkered rubber cover. Lengthened frame for .45 Win Mag and LAR magazine for .45 Win Mag. Housed in a red felt lined French fitted case with a plaque that reads "Great Northern Guns / 20th Anniversary Commemorative / Alaska Series / Toklat Special / ser. no. GNG-TS 15/20". Accompanied by the original letter from LAR indicative that the gun was never fired at the factory and only the barrel has been "shot" with a single high pressure test cartridge and the gun was only cycled once at assembly; particularly, LAR notes that if one wanted to shoot the gun, they required the gun to be returned for function testing. CONDITION: Excellent, with bluing turning a plum color throughout. Retains functionally all of the factory applied finish with some absolutely minute markings from handling and storage. Legends are crisp and legible. Case is excellent. This is a really top notch collectible for either the Alaskan sportsman or the collector of oddity firearms. EMW
