Manufactured 1865 as per serial number. Tapered post front sight, notch rear sight on hammer, single line New York address on barrel. Cylinder looks to have been rerolled as "COLT'S PATENT" runs off the edge, with "C" approximately half gone. Brass strap and frame. At some point in its life, this revolver was engraved in near complete coverage of flowing florals with interspliced flowers and vignettes of nudes; cylinder depicts nudes holding hands on a punched ground. Shell motif at the top of the backstrap. Stocks are relief engraved with florals surrounding vignettes of women in Roman toga; possibly Aphrodite and another mythological figure (Andromeda?). Full or partial matching numbers observed on butt, frame, subframe, barrel assembly, and wedge. CONDITION: Very good as custom engraved and refinished. Metal is an approximate even mixture of dove grey and blue, with some pitting near muzzle. Engraving is reasonably well executed by somewhat rough at curves. Stocks are very good, free of cracks or chips, and revarnished, probably at the same time that the engraving was completed. Engraving is not signed. Mechanically fine, bore has visible rifling with even frosting and a few deeper areas of oxidation on right side. EMW
