Winchester Model 1866 lever action saddle ring carbine. Made 1881. Two line patent dates on the barrel in front of the rear sight. Round, carbine length barrel with the front band doubling as the front blade sight. Two position flip up rear sight. Saddle ring stud and ring are possible replacements. Brass frame is leaf style engraved on both sides, being signed "W.A. RENO ENG" on the left side. Balance of parts are blued. Oil finished wood stock and forearm, with the latter looking to be a replacement. Brass Henry style butt plate with trapdoor. CONDITION: Metal retains little of its original finish with most areas having a brown patina forming. Brass frame has some tarnish, with some light signs of cleaning. Wood has handling marks and scratches. Heavily frosted bore with fair rifling. Mechanically fine. JWA
