Measures 25 - 1/4" from kissaki to munemachi. Classic shinogi zukuri form with a gunome hamon that has frosty nioi and probably a water quenched blade. Iori mune. Ubu nakago with single drilled mekugi-ana, kurijiri nakagojiri, saka takanoha yasurime. Left side of nakago signed Unhosai Katsunaga. Brass habaki. Tsuba and seppa are probably period replacements as some have cuts for locking fuchi and others do not. Fuchi, kashira, koiguchi, both ashi hangers, semegane, and koijiri are standard florals over a roe pattern. Koijiri with a chrysanthemum design. Saya with rayskin wrap painted blade. CONDITION: Blade has a visible hamon but several areas of darkness and some surface scratches from an amateur polish. Mounts have numerous scrapes and darkness but have a good authentic well used look; tsuka ito is tight. Fuchi, kashira, koijiri, koiguchi, ashi, and semegane with darkness and some softening of details. Saya has chipping of black paint to reveal rayskin but is solid. EMW
