World War II US silk 48 star American flag with Japanese writing indicating that the flag may have been captured during the war. The flag measures approximately 33 - 1/2" x 22 - 1/2" not including the plexiglass frame. There are a few lines of kanji written just below the canton. The flag is framed with a paper containing a translation and explanation of the kanji. The paper explains proper Japanese writing during the World War II and pre-World War II period and describes how certain words can be written in certain ways. The small explanation is concluded by stating that this flag could have possibly been captured by a First Lieutenant Itai, who wrote the date of capture on the flag. CONDITION: The flag is complete and the coroners remain intact. There are a few scattered holes and stains but the flag remains clean overall. The colors exhibit fading. The flag was professionally framed in plexiglass and is ready to hang. Overall very good. JLD
