This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/14/2021
This hat is has a bound edge showing wear and a wide, faded grosgrain silk band around the base. The sweatband and lining are missing. The hat body and brim are rather heavy felt and we hesitate to date it more precisely than call it of the style or perhaps of the era at best. The cavalry insignia, however, appear original and mounted for display as they would have appeared on a piece of privately purchased headgear. The yellow cavalry enlisted hat cord is full length and complete though dirty. The regimenal number 5 is dented as is the cavalry crossed sabers. The number is affixed with wire pins. The sabers have correct small loops. The side eagle i very good and is fixed with two small loops and appears made without the small double wire hook at bottom. CONDITION: Good. Some dust and dirt. Wear to hat binding and ribbon. Dents to front insignia that could be straightened.
Item Dimensions: 10" x 10"
