Springfield Model 1816 Flintlock Musket built by W.L. Evans of Evansburg, Pennsylvania in 1830 and is one of 5000 in this contract. 42" smoothbore round barrel in .69 caliber with "LS" for Luther Sage government inspector at that time and "VP" with "P" proof and tang dated "1830" fitted with socket type bayonet marked "US" and "WL". Flint lock with brass pan that appears to be all original marked with "W.L. EVANS/EAGLE/V.FORGE" dated 1830 with "US" underneath. controlled by single trigger. Walnut full military stock with "LS" (Luther Sage) inspection mark with three iron bands and iron stock hardware with "U.S." marked buttplate. Comes with steel ramrod. CONDITION: Metal parts have been cleaned to a silvery gray patina with lock reconverted to original configuration with period correct parts. Wood has burnout around tang from when gun was percussion and shows usage wear marks. Dark pitted bore with crisp strong mechanics. Bayonet has been cleaned to a silvery patina. DLM
