US M1836 flintlock pistol manufacture by Johnson with 8 - 1/2" round barrel in .54 caliber smoothbore with brass blade front sight. Barrel is martially marked "U.S" / "TW" / "P" on left side above barrel flat. Lock is marked "U.S" / "R. JOHNSON" / "MIDDLN. CONN." / and is dated 1837 underneath. 1 piece walnut stock bearing JH cartouche in an oval on left stock flat opposite lock. Captured ramrod with iron mountings. CONDITION: Very good as lightly cleaned at one point with traces of original National Armory Bright in protected areas with scattered freckling throughout and heavier freckling near breech. Stock is very good with cartouche complete, light handling marks throughout, and wood darkening from age. Action is tight and crisp. Bore is dark. An honest example of a Mexican-American War era martial pistol in original flint. TON
