Maker not identified in Stockel but form of pistol suggests a French origin. Octagonal to round barrel with wedding rings at girdle. Blade front sight is slightly offset. Rounded bevelled lock is signed under the frizzen spring "G. Delilel" (?, difficult to read). Swan neck cock with light floral engraving, bridled pan. Trumpet ramrod, unlikely to be to the original as the diameter is too large to fit down the barrel, feeds into a reinforced mouth. Horn forend cap. Tang with a raised shell motif carving. Trigger guard with flat bottom profile before transitioning to an elliptical forepiece that leads to an acorn finial. Flat profile of trigger guard engraved with simple florals. Birdshead butt with iron butt engraved en suite. Single piece stock with drop points behind locks. CONDITION: Brass barrel has acquired a rich brown/red patina with flashes of brass still showing at the edges. Lock has been cleaned in the center with visible polishing marks and some spots of oxidation, with a chocolate patina at rear. Butt and trigger guard furniture with an even chocolate patina with some flashes of dove grey. Stock has bumps and bruises throughout from use, with one noticeable area of marks on right side of wrist and one crack that runs from left sidepanel near rear screw through wrist and to right side of tang, near breech, and a much smaller crack behind lock; both cracks appear stable. Mechanically fine, bore is good with a minimum of oxidation. EMW
