Framed Maynard Dixon painting entitled " Gathering Storm". Signed and notated; "MD Utah Sept 1938". Site 19 3/4" X 16". Overall 26 3/4" X 22 3/4". Oil on canvas/board with what appears to be a period frame with a "W" brand marking on the reverse. Reverse of painting retains an original paper label from Maynard Dixon, 728 Montgomery Street, San Francisco. Other notations include; #485, #1, XII 30 and Gathering Storm. Possibly, some of the notations may be from Gallery exhibits. Maynard Dixon (1875-1946) was a noted painter and illustrator, depicting scenes and people from the 20th Century American West. Most of the Utah paintings date from 1933-1945. This piece captures the harsh, unforgiving land of the Utah Dixon so favored.
