1937, BELGIUM: From the Belgium factories of Theofiel Mortier, came some of the most elegant organs the world has ever known. Some were in the form of temples, other resembled palaces, and others with a much simpler design, but all were triumphs of the woodcarvers art. Mortier is still a name that sounds to many collectors like the Rolls Royce of dance organs, and like this example, built in Mortier's later years, a spectacle for the eyes and ears to experience. Built in 1937, this 102 key dance organ was built in the Mortier Belgium factory, and eventually purchased and moved to a museum in the UK for many years. It was ultimately brokered by Andrew Pilmer, a dealer/restorer, who completed a restoration and sold it to this collection where it has remained until now. 102 keys, with well over 200 pipes and accordion, this dance organ is built to fill the best of dance halls with splendid music and rich sound. The organ was dismantled in The Netherlands, packed like most of this collection in a container and shipped to our auction house. With great anticipation it arrived in March, and we reassembled it in its entirety, put in a play card, and it erupted in music. It has since been tuned and is playing wonderfully.
