1912, BELGIUM: Towards the end of Mortier's production, these Art Deco organs were mechanically similar to the earlier style organs, but with the addition of an accordion, they were able to add a modern café style instrument to the collection. By that time Mortier's dominance among Belgium dance organ makers was being challenged by Gebr. Decap, who also made superb dance orchestrions in the modern style. This instrument started its life in 1912 as a large size dance organ in Belgium. In 1990 it was acquired by Henri Krijnen, who enlisted Decap Herentals to downsize the organ to fit the original Mortier façade he had acquired. It was subsequently restored by Martin Conrads of Holland, where special attention was taken to give the instrument a modern sound. The addition of the accordion, some additional noted pipes and a MIDI system all have added to the wonderful sound. This Mortier will play on either tune cards or MIDI. As has been the movement for some time now with modern dance organ builders like Gebr. Decap working to a more modern sound and popular music, this instrument has achieved that sound and is worthy of a listen, so you can experience its contemporary qualities.
