1895, FRANCE: The firm od Gavioli & Co. headquartered in Paris, was a leading European manufacturer of fairground organs. Established in 1806, by the turn of the century they had manufacturing in Waldkirch Germany, and in New York, USA. This instrument is one of there small size portable hand crank organ. Mistakenly referred to as a monkey organ, these portables were usual strapped around a performers neck with a large leather strap, and they would find a busy street corner to perform for loose change. This instrument, similar in size to Gavioli's Uniflute, it is Tune book operated, has 26 keys, and come with a newer cart. CONSIDERATIONS: Showing a restoration to the instrument in the recent past, but very well done and without influencing the finish or patina. The instrument plays perfectly and comes with a selection of tune cards.
