1900, FRANCE: The French word for "crank" is "manivelle". All automata that requires a crank to be turned to play are often referred to as a Manivelle. This little drummer girl manivelle is early French construction, attributed to Jumeau. Showing period clothing, bisque face with glass eyes, wooden hands and a working drum. CONSIDERATIONS: Showing some wear to the clothing, mostly on the legs, missing button and trim, paint loss to the hands and one ear ring missing. When the crank is turned, the young lady plays the drums as intended. A very early piece and in working order.
