From Au Nain Bleu store in Paris. Ca. 1900. SFBJ bisque socket head 301 child doll with original mohair wig, lashed blue sleeping eyes (eyelid wax missing from one), fully jointed composition and wood child body (thumb missing). This was the luxury, top of the line SFBJ mold # and body. Wearing original store clothing: white organdy baby christening dress with lace trim, matching slip, pink cotton underslip (so typical of Au Nain Bleu) and lace bonnet with pink ribbons, original shoes and socks. This dates from before the bent-limb baby body was invented, so dolls with jointed bodies were used as babies. She also has original store panty, slip, chemise and play dress with matching lace trim. She could also be played with as a child as she has included in her original store trousseau a pair of cotton pjs with pink trim, a pink silk dress and a pink wool coat and hat. Also included is a white chemise with red trim that might not go with her. She also has a vintage blue knitted wool dress, hat and mittens, probably made for her and added by the original owner, and a pair of red ice skates, ivory comb and 2 brushes. She is in her original leather-grained paper-covered wood trunk 13.5 x 8 x 6.5” with faux leather and real brass trim and brass label “Au Nain Bleu 406-408-410 Rue St. Honore 1& 3 Rue Richepance. Paris” (one layer of cardboard bottom is missing, leather handle broken), key still works the lock. Seldom do these ensembles come on the market, wonderful set!
