Zlatoust is well known for being one of the foremost centers of Russian engraving and metalwork, with production as far back as 1815, when Zlatoust was manufacturing edged weapons, including decorated examples. This modern example is a hunting knife with a Damascus straightback blade, decorated on right side with a stalking tiger, surrounded by fine florals and light intricate knotwork, while right side is more simply decorated with flowing florals. Sheath and bolster are decorated en suite with more knotwork and florals and a blackened ground, with sheath depicting a roaring tiger in a frozen tundra. Burl walnut grip with finger grooves. Pommel depicts a snarling tiger with emerald eyes. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining virtually all of the factory finishes, with some very minor marks from sheathing/resheathing. Housed in a wooden presentation case fitted to knife and paper slipcase. Accompanied by Russian Compliance paperwork and a brief description of the knife in Cyrillic. A lovely piece of Russian art. EMW. A portion of the proceeds for this lot will be donated to Samaritan’s Purse in support of Ukraine.
