Zlatoust is well known for being one of the foremost centers of Russian engraving and metalwork, with production as far back as 1815, when Zlatoust was manufacturing edged weapons, including decorated examples. This modern example is a hunting knife with a Damascus blade, with drop point blade, decorated on right side with a bear walking through trees, surrounded by fine florals and intricate knotwork, while right side is more simply decorated with knotwork. Sheath and bolster are decorated en suite with more knotwork and florals and a blackened ground, with sheath depicting a ferocious bear preparing to maul a fleeing boar. Burl walnut grip with finger grooves. Pommel depicts a bear, decorated with knotwork, emerald eyes, and a lanyard loop "mouth". CONDITION: Excellent, retaining virtually all of the factory finishes, with some very minor marks from sheathing/resheathing. Housed in a wooden presentation case fitted to knife and paper slipcase. Accompanied by Russian Compliance paperwork in Cyrillic. A lovely piece of Russian art. EMW. A portion of the proceeds for this lot will be donated to Samaritan’s Purse in support of Ukraine.
