An extremely long and rare Bedford County Kentucky rifle made by William Defibaugh in Monroe Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania in circa 1850. Buck-and-ball style half round-half octagon 60" barrel with rifle sights and straight cut rifling. Bedford County hand forged "rat tail" lock with atypical high spur hammer, signed in script "WD" with double set trigger control. Full curly maple stock with brass hardware including typical Bedford County "Q" finial patchbox with floral engraved lid with hidden release. Stock is decorated with 4 coin silver inlays including an oval cheek inlay with scroll design. Comes with striped trumpet head hardwood ramrod with threaded tip. CONDITION: Overall good, original patina on metal; broken wrist with period repair. Wood retains untouched patina look with usage damage around pins and patchbox with some burnout around lock. Hammer does not hold cock. Pitted bore with visible rifling. A very unusual and rare rifle. DLM
