Manufactured circa 1914/1915 as per "Savage Pistols" by Brower. Standard configuration of blade front side, notch rear sight. Top of slide marked "MANUFACTURED BY SAVAGE ARMS CO. CAL. / UTICA. N.Y. US.A. PAT - NOV. 21. 1905. .380". Case colored hammer, trigger, and magazine release. Well engraved in A class coverage. Savage pearl grips with deeply inset Indian head Savage medallions retained by a single screw. Magazine marked "380CAL" on left side. In a period leatherette case with burgundy lining and French fit for the pistol, an 8 shot cartridge block, a box of 50 .380 Winchester ammunition, a cleaning rod, and slot for a spare magazine. Accompanied by a letter from Bailey Brower, Jr. (the author of "Savage Pistols"), attesting to the features and condition, indicating that it was liquidated from his personal collection in October 2021. Only noted difference is letter indicates that the case had a box of Savage branded .380 ACP cartridges, instead of Winchester. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining virtually all of the Savage factory bluing with only the lightest marks from handling and storage over a 100 plus year lifespan. Legends and engraving are crisp. Case colors are excellent and have a layer of lacquer applied over the top. There is a very small area of a few miniature pinpricks of oxidation on left side of slide. Mechanically excellent, bore is good with crisp rifling and some very light frosting. Case is excellent, tight, with some very minor age related distress. Improving on this example would be extremely difficult.
