Smith & Wesson .44 Special Hand Ejector double action revolver. This is a first model gun, made circa 1907-15. "44 S.&W. SPECIAL CTG" marked on the left side of the barrel, between 2 Maltese crosses. 2 line company address and patent dates on the top of the barrel. Faint trademark on the right side of the frame. Matching serials on the barrel, butt, and cylinder. Matching assembly numbers on the frame and crane. Factory rework star on the butt. 6 shot fluted cylinder. Half moon front sight and U-notch rear. Factory reapplied nickel finish. Case colored smooth face trigger and spurred hammer. Checkered wood grips with gold "S&W" medallions. CONDITION" Metal retains 70% of its reworked finish with wear and some surface rust under the grips. Grips have light handling marks and scratches. Bore is frosted, with a few minor pits. Strong rifling retained. Tight hammer and cylinder. Good timing and lockup. Light drag line on the cylinder. Mechanically fine. JWA
