Smith & Wesson Model 1917 double action revolver. Made early 1918. "S.&W. D.A.45" marked on the left side of the barrel, with the 2 line company address and patent dates on the top. "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" marked on the bottom of the barrel. Inspector stamp on the top left of the frame, "(Eagle's head)" proof in the bottom of the barrel. Matching serials on the butt, cylinder, and in pencil on the inside of the left grip. 6 shot fluted cylinder. Half moon front sight with U-notch rear. Factory dark blue finish on the metal components. Case colored smooth face hammer and spurred hammer. Lanyard stud and ring are present. Oil finished wood grips. CONDITION: Metal retains 85% of its original finish with a few light handling marks and scratches. Both grips have lines carved in them. Bore is shiny with crisp rifling. Hammer and cylinder are tight. Sharp timing and lockup. Drag line is visible on the cylinder. Mechanically fine. JWA
