Springfield Model 1879 Trapdoor saddle ring carbine made in 1880 by Springfield Armory with serial number 124178. 22" blued round rifled barrel with pinned blade front sight and 1879 style rear graduated flip buckhorn sight with "V" and "P" proof markings. Finished blue action with casehardened low arch breechblock marked "U.S. Model 1878". 2 position hammer with undated "U.S. Springfield" marked lock. Walnut stock with no visible cartouche and inscribed racking numbers. Stock has 2 piece trigger guard and U.S. marked buttplate with compartment and slide bar with saddle ring. CONDITION: 90% fading barrel blue with 90% action finish. Stock has been cleaned with light coat of oil applied and some light handling marks. Good bore and mechanics. DLM
