World War II SCR-578 "Gibson Girl" Survival Radio Transmitter. The Gibson Girl radio set was a hand powered emergency transmitter which was designed for use by aircrews who were forced to ditch their aircraft over water. The transmitter could be used in small rafts and was named "Gibson Girl" for their narrow waist which resembled girls illustrated by Charles Dana Gibson. This transmitter set is incomplete and features the following components: SCR-578 transmitter with crank on the reverse and canvas strap, Handbook of Maintenance Instructions, 2 instruction tags, manual hand crank, cylinder bag containing M-357-A Kite, inflating tubes, and M-315-A (Hydrogen), LM-58-A signal lamp, mirror, and 2 M-278-A Balloons in their original cans. CONDITION: The transmitter and its accessories are in good condition with some pieces exhibiting blemishes. The signal lamp and mirror exhibit oxidation and the balloon cans exhibit dents and staining. The manual and tags exhibit blemishes that are typical of old paper. Overall good. JLD
