William Theodore Marsden was a 19th century American painter well known for his sporting and horse paintings, some of which were copied as lithographs. Offered in this lot is his complete set of four American Field Sports dated 1857. Printed and hand colored in Paris, France. In the book "America on Stone" by Harry T. Peters, a wealthy 19th century coal merchant and sportsman. Mr. Peters was an ardent collector and considered an authority of early lithograph prints. His book showcases 1,686 lithographs from his personal collection. Mr. Peters's books give high praise to Marsden featuring his work on page 272, plates 51 and 57. CONDITION: Excellent overall showing bold color with no defects, soiling, or staining. Professionally conservation mounted and framed in solid cherry wood frames using acid-free matting and backing.
