Circa 1924. An English-built 16 bore deluxe quality boxlock ejector with 28" dovetail lump blacked steel barrels with a rib extension 3rd bite fastener and engraved scrolls near breech are fit with ejectors and tapered machined concave game rib with steel front bead sight. The top of the right barrel is roll stamped "WEBLEY & SCOTT LTD. MAKERS." while top of the left barrel is marked "55 VICTORIA STREET. LONDON. S.W.1 . ENGLAND." The muted case color action body is adorned with tight scroll engraving, fences are carved with oak leaves and top lever with scrolls is checkered on left side of thumbpiece. Screw grip boxlock action features, disc set strikers, automatic safety with "SAFE" in gold just forward of the finely checkered safety slide, and an engraved trigger guard extending to a long bottom strap protecting the double triggers. The round knob pistol hand grip reddish-orange English walnut stock with smoky contrast figuring has drop points, 2-panel classic flat-top, point pattern checkering, engraved golden stock oval, and an orange Silvers style rubber recoil pad. Splinter forend with carved shoulders, similar flat-top, point pattern checkering, and Anson style push-button release. CONDITION: Very good. Action body retains trace amounts of case color finish with more in protected areas. Barrels retain 80% blackening with handling marks. Bores are bright and shiny. The stock and forend have handling and storage marks, bruising in the checkering, heel of recoil pad slightly misshaped from use and fit slightly proud of wood at toe, a small crack approximately 1/8" behind top tang, and what appears to be a fill for a removed sling stud on toe line. Triggers are crisp, barrels tight on face, and ejectors timed well. This is a Golden Era classic British boxlock. (CP)
