Third Reich RAD Subordinates Hewer produced by the maker Julius Krebs. The Hewer has a 9 - 1/2” nickel plated steel blade, which is maker marked for the manufacturer Julius Krebs. The blade is also marked “Ges Gesch” (Patent Pending), “RAJD (in triangle)”, and the number “837” which does not correspond to any number on the scabbard. The blade also features the RAD motto “Arbeit Adelt”, which translates to “Work Enobles”. The blade has scattered light marks throughout, most likely from cleaning, and evidence of an attempted sharpening. The crossguard, hilt, and pommel beak, are made of nickel-plated steel. The nickel plating has light wear and patina throughout, but no lifting of the plating. The two stag bone grip plates are intact, without damage, and have developed a nice dark patina. The black painted steel scabbard body retains approximately 75% of its original gloss black factory paint, with areas on both edges having wear to the paint. The lower drag and throat body are made of nickel-plated steel with patina and freckling throughout. All four scabbard screws are made of aluminum and are present. CONDITION: Very good to excellent. PROVENANCE: Lt. Robert A. Bonner Collection. DMW
