Circa 1977. An East German-built 12 bore sideplated boxlock with 26 - 3/8" shoe lump blued steel barrels with a rib extension third bite fastener, fit with ejectors and tapered machined concave game rib with a steel front bead sight. Breech end of barrels are scroll engraved. Top of right barrel is rolled stamped "SPECIAL-GEWEHRLAUFSTAHL" while the left barrel is rolled stamped "SIMSON SUHL MADE IN GDR". Bottom of the barrels have German proof marks from the SUHL Proof House with "12/70". The right side of the rear lump has the serial number "761649" and the quality mark of "Outstanding Quality". The coin finish sideplated action body is adorned with scrolls and game scenes. Right plate has 3 Pheasants in a pastural scene while the left plate has raptor (Eagle) coming in ready to grab a Mallard with his talons while a second Mallard flies away in a woodlands scene, bottom of action body has scroll engraving with the symbol of the city of Suhl of a man at an anvil and blued top lever is checkered on the left side of thumbpiece. Sideplated boxlock action features side clips, Greener cross bolt, side-mounted cocking indicator pins, automatic safety with "S" engraved just forward of the serrated safety slide, and an engraved blued trigger guard extending to a long lightly engraved bottom strap protecting the double triggers. The classic English straight hand grip reddish-orange walnut stock has finely cut 2-panel point pattern checkering, vacant shield, and a thin black Pachmayr White Line rubber recoil pad. The splinter forend has Deeley-style lever release. Gun lives in a green canvas case and leather trunk case CONDITION: Very Good. Barrels have handling/use marks and retain 95% blue from recent refresh and bores are bright and shiny. Barrel's bottom rib has 2 filler screws installed for removed sling swivel. Stock and forend both benefited from recent refresh. Buttstock and forend have minor use and storage marks. Triggers are crisp, barrels are loose and ejectors timed well. Case is in good condition with handling and storage marks on the leather. (CP)
