Lot consists of: (A) Model 1860 Cavalry Saber, which was one of the most heavily used edged weapons during the Civil War. The sword is marked "US / C.E.W. / 1864" on the obverse ricasso and "EMERSON / & / SILVER / TRENTON / N.J." on the reverse. The sword consists of a curved blade, brass guard, and leather wrapped grooved wood grip that is held nicely together by brass wire and is complete with its original steel scabbard. CONDITION: The blade exhibits a gray patina with scattered pitting and chips along the edge. The brass guard and knucklebow wobbles slightly and exhibits a pleasing patina with scattered blemishes. There is leather loss on the grip and the brass wire remains tight. The scabbard exhibits a dark patina with scattered pitting and minor dents. Overall good. (B) Ames Model 1840 NCO sword complete with its leather scabbard. The sword features a single edged blade with a single stopped fuller with a ricasso that is marked "U.S. / A.H.C. / 1863" on the obverse and "AMES MFG / CHICOPEE / MASS". The sword also features a brass hilt with grips of simulated cast brass wire wrap along with a double shell guard and a knucklebow that is inspector marked "A.D.K.". The scabbard is of black leather and features brass mounts. CONDITION: The blade exhibits evidence of polishing and remains bright. The brass guard retains some of its gilt and the hilt exhibits a pleasing patina. The scabbard mounts exhibit a similar patina with light dents and there is a 1" break in the stitching towards the lower mount. The scabbard remains as 1 piece but is fragile at the break.
