Lot consists of (A) Silver Victorian cartridge box with a more contemporary VR cypher. Silver hallmarks for Birmingham sterling silver, 1861, maker not identified. Perimeter engraved with flowing floral work. Acanthus leaves flanking box with loops stamped for B&P, top decorated with golden brocade. (B) Marked for Birmingham sterling silver, manufactured by Joseph Jennens and Co, 1847. Sides of leather box are further decorated with silver acanthus letters and brocade. Elaborate brass cypher affixed to front that resembles the Brandenburg cypher without the eagle. Perimeter is engraved with thistle work. CONDITION: Both boxes are somewhat tarnished, could easily be cleaned by a new owned. Cypher on box (A) appears to be of a more recent vintage. Leather on both boxes is stiff but complete with some minor handling marks and some polish residue from someone having polished the silver with NevrDull or equivalent.
