Model 1906 Luger manufactured by DWM under contract for the Portuguese Navy shortly before Portugal's monarchy was replaced with a Republic. The first 350 Model 1906 Luger produced and delivered by DWM bore a "(Crown) / (Anchor)" crest over the chamber area but were subsequently changed to "R.P. / (Anchor)" once the monarch of Portugal was disposed. This example bears the "(Crown) / (Anchor)" crest over the chamber area with a single Portuguese "MP" acceptance proof stamped on the left side of the receiver. Toggle bears the intertwined "DWM" monogram. Major metal components are rust blued, with some smaller components being strawed and nitre blued. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered walnut grips. The full serial number "139" is present on the frame and barrel, with the locking bolt, trigger, sideplate, receiver, breechblock, and front & rear toggles matching via the last 2 digits. Grips and magazine do not match. Firing pin is unnumbered. Pistol is accompanied by a Portuguese Model 1908 Army pattern brown leather holster containing its cleaning rod/oiler and pin punch tool as well as a 2-cell magazine pouch. CONDITION: Metal components retain good amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear, thinning, and oxidation overall, with the grip straps and safety exhibiting a dark grey patina. Strawed components have been reheated at one point in time, retaining the majority of their finish with the exception of the trigger, which retains a mostly dark grey patina. Barrel appears to be a later Portuguese replacement, exhibiting a bright bore with good rifling throughout. Grips show smoothing overall, with some scattered impressions and handling marks, but otherwise appear sturdy and serviceable. Holster is very good, showing moderate wear from use. Magazine pouch shows some age-related cracking and a few spots of crazing, with the rear showing some repaired stitching. A very nice example of a seldom encountered DWM Model 1906 Portuguese Navy contract Luger bearing the monarchy's crest. MLW
