Elaborate 8 pointed compass singed "C. Lincoln" "London" around perimeter of the compass with dual pointing needle and lifter arm. Sights have affixing hardware and are included, 1 marked "II" on underside, other marked "2". Housed in a wooden case with label in lid for Andrew Meneely, noted purveyor of survey equipment from Troy. A USMC blanket has been used to line the box and prevent damage. Also included is a manual entitled "THE FARMERS LAND MEASURER" with instructions on how to measure land and filled with handwritten notes of numbers and calculations, certainly the owner performing the requisite math. CONDITION: Very good, with brass having acquired a deep bronze-green patina, with verdigris in squares on either arm, where sights attach. Case is very good with numerous bumps and chips throughout, with remnants of leather carrying strap visible on left and right sides, where originally bolted on. Needle spins freely. EMW
