Early Colt 2nd Model 1851 Navy Revolver made by Colt Firearms in 1850. 7 - 1/2" octagon .36 caliber rifled barrel with early brass cone sight and early New York address "ADDRESS SAM-L COLT NEW YORK CITY". Serial number "609" marked on front frame, loading lever, cylinder, frame, trigger guard, and backstrap. Correct unmarked wedge with 2nd Model style screw above wedge plate. Cylinder retains excellent Naval battle scene. Case hardened frame is marked with a "U.S." stamp on left side with no martial inspector's markings, and with this being a square-back trigger guard, it is thought that these were purchased for the U.S. Army Medical Corps as mentioned on page 80 of Nathan L. Swayze's book "51 NAVIES". Brass square-back trigger guard with nickel finish and walnut unmarked grips. CONDITION: 80% fading original barrel blue with wear on the corners. Loading lever and frame case colors worn to a silvery patina. Cylinder has very visible scene and markings and is worn to a silvery patina. Trigger guard is worn to brass with traces of original nickel finish. Good original grips with traces of original finish. Good bore with good crisp mechanics. DLM
