A German World War II 25 Engagement General Assault badge by the maker Rudolf Karneth. The badge is constructed of 2 separate zinc based pieces: the eagle and the wreath. The eagle retains some of its original dark finish with remnants of the protective lacquer in the recesses. The badges wreath has lost most of its original silver wash over time, which is expected to see with many zinc based badges. A heavy patina can be seen on the obverse of the badge. The “25” number box in the correct style for this manufacturer, and was, originally, attached to the badge by solder. 4 zinc rivets can be seen on the reverse of the badge which hold the eagle firmly to the wreath. The rivets are textbook for the maker. The hinge and catch are correctly crimped in place, and the catch has the “anti-rotation” device in the crimps recess. The correct magnetic pin is still attached to the hinge, and functions properly. The maker mark of “RK” can be seen on the badges reverse 3 o’clock position. CONDITION: Very good. DMW
