Lot consists of: (A) German U-Boat cigarette case with engraved Red Devil on the top lid of the case, as well as “Kriegsmarine”, and “U-Flotille”. The case is with heavy wear and patina throughout. The case’s top 2 hinges have become detached from the main hinge assembly, however the lower 4 remain intact holding the 2 halves of the case together. The wear on the case has warped it in a way where the 2 halves do not fully close tightly, leaving a gap approximately 1/4” to 1/2”. The inside of the case has an engraving of “Obermechaniker Carl Schlag, 12 Oktober 1943”, and appears to have been applied using an electro-pencil. A small, half scratched out, stamp on the lower edge of the inside case lid reads “ALPA”, the scratch could be over the remaining letters and most likely reads “ALPAKA”, a common German metal used in place of silver during wartime. The “Red Devil” emblem was made most famous by U-Boat Commander Erich Topp, who commanded U-551, amongst several others. CONDITION: Fair. (B) An original German World War II photograph of German U-boat with Red Devil emblem on the ships tower, and crew in port. CONDITION: Excellent. DMW

Item Dimensions: 5" X 4"
