US M1841 Mississippi Rifle manufactured by E. Whitney and dated 1848. 33" round barrel in .58 caliber rifled with dovetail rear sight and blade front. Full length brass tipped trumpet head ramrod. 1 piece plain walnut stock with brass mountings complete with military buttplate and implement compartment with additional nipple, screwdriver/disassembly tool, and patch worm. Barrel is marked "US" / "SK" / "V" / "P" on left above woodline. Stock bears faint "JS" and "WAT" cartouches on left flat opposite lock. CONDITION: Very good with iron assemblies turned a speckled brown patina with handling marks throughout. Evidence of burnout near barrel tang. Stock is very good as cleaned and finish added with handling marks throughout. Mechanically fine. Bore is dark with abrasion throughout from use with corrosive black powder and well-defined rifling.
