An interesting piece of gun making history. This gun is a 6 shot revolving smoothbore rifle made by an unknown gunsmith back in the period. Gun resembles prototypes made by other gunsmiths such as Billinghurst, Warner, and Wurfflein. Gun has 27" round smoothbore .45 caliber barrel with blade front sight and Winchester carbine style rear sight. 6 shot percussion cylinder in exposed hammer iron frame with double triggers. Tang marked with a museum number of "Q5-09-41". Walnut plain straight grip stock with steel buttplate with checkered walnut splinter forearm. Work is crude but was probably an innovation at the time. Gun originated out of the Erie, Pennsylvania area near many good New York and Erie gunsmiths. PROVENANCE: Rich Guckes Collection. CONDITION: Metal has plum patina finish with areas of corrosion. Wood has dark aged patina with 2 holes for sling swivel plate with dings and marks. Pitted bore with mechanics needing some work. An interesting rifle. DLM
