Unknown maker Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Contract musket made under the Legislative Act of 1797. 44" smoothbore .69 caliber barrel with 2 iron bands and double strap iron nose cap. Marked at breech with Liberty Cap over "P" proof. Flintlock marked with "CP" at rear with original looking parts. Large chunk of wood replaced between tang and lock. Walnut full military stock with iron hardware and marked on left side behind lockplate "V / CP" and the number "49". PROVENANCE: Rich Guckes Collection. CONDITION: Overall good with metal turning a plum patina with some areas of pitting. Lock turning mostly a grey patina with visible "CP". Possible reconversion with ring visible around touch hole. Wood has dark patina with some initials scratched in it and usual hard usage dings and marks. Dark bore with crisp mechanics. DLM
