Model 1908 manufactured by Steyr in the first year of production after purchasing the Pieper patent in 1908. The left side of the receiver bears stampings stipulating the manufacturer information, with the right being marked "N. PIEPER PATENT". Left side of barrel bears patent information as well as "09." followed by an Austrian coat of arms, signifying production in 1909. Right side of barrel bears additional patent information with a Swiss cross as well as an Austrian NPV proof mark. Major metal components are rust blued, with some smaller components being nitre blued. Frame is mounted with 2-piece brown hard runner grips. Matching numbers are visible on the frame, bolt carrier, and barrel. CONDITION: Fine, with metal components retaining nearly all of their original 1909 factory applied finish, showing some very light spots of wear as well as some cleaned areas of light oxidation beneath the grip panels. Mirror bore, exhibiting some very light surface oxidation towards the breech and retaining well defined lands and grooves throughout. Hard rubber grips are excellent, exhibiting a few minor handling and storage marks overall. Right grip shows an area of fading, with the balance of the left grip fading to a light brown. A truly exceptional example of an over a century old Steyr Model 1908 semi-automatic pistol.
