Very nice World War I British medal grouping that is identified to Lance Corporal Stewart McLeod. The only son of Adam and Marion McLeod, Stewart joined the British Army late in World War I and was assigned to Company D, 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. His service record is short, as he died on October 30, 1918 at the age of 19. Combat did not claim Stewarts' life, instead the common enemy of the Triple Entente and the Central Powers, disease, put an early end to the young man's life. McLeod's service is remembered through his medals which include: (A) Military Medal, which was awarded for "acts of gallantry and devotion to duty under fire". (B) British War Medal which was awarded for service during World War I. (C) WWI Victory Medal. All of the medals are impressed with McLeod's name, unit, and is service number S/15826 on their rims. (D) "Dead Man’s Penny" Memorial Plaque medallion which is named to McLeod. (E) An additional medal, the First Pattern George V Long Service and Good Conduct Medal of the Royal Fleet Reserve, is included. This medal is impressed "K.20657 CH.B. 19235 F. CHALLENGER. STO. 1. R.F.R" on the rim. CONDITION: All medals present very well with scattered blemishes and faded ribbons. Medal (D) has a replaced ribbon. Overall Good. JLD
