Circa 1983. The rifle features a nicely floral scroll engraved receiver with gold inlaid border accents, gold "WINCHESTER/-TRADE MARK-" on the left wall, and serial number "UG 686" in gold on the right side of the receiver ring. The top left rear of the receiver is signed "Bottega C. Giovanelli" giving the source of engraving as the Cesar Giavonelli school of engraving in Brescia, Italy. The 22" featherweight profile barrel is chambered for the .270 Winchester cartridge, manufactured without sights, with double gold inlaid bands (1 thin, 1 wide) around the muzzle and gold "1 of 1,000" on the right rear. The left side of the barrel is marked "WINCHESTER MODEL 70 FEATHERWEIGHT ULTRA GRADE - 270 WIN MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL". The breech end is marked with the Winchester oval proof. The top of the receiver is fit with a 1-piece base and engraved rings that hold a Leupold 2x7 VARI-X IIc scope. The floor plate, trigger guard and grip cap are engraved with the same floral scroll design, with a big horn ram in the center of the floor plate with gold bordering. Jeweled bolt and follower, with floral scroll engraving on the bolt handle. Rifle is stocked in an extra fancy American walnut pistol grip stock in the featherweight style with a Schnabel forend tip. Both sides of the reddish-brown butt are intensely figured with tiger striping. The rich colors continue throughout the stock. Checkering on forearm and grip is extra fancy with a ribbon pattern. The stock features a Schnabel forend tip, engraved steel grip cap, solid rubber Winchester recoil pad and sling swivel studs. CONDITION: Excellent. Bluing on rifle is in like new condition. Minor handling/storage marks on buttstock. Rubber recoil pad slightly compressed from rifle resting an extended period on its pad. A wonderful heirloom Winchester. (CP)
