Manufactured by Colt in 1972, with Pachmayr invoice dated 1975. The Signature Series was Pachmayr's move into the 1911 accurization community, providing top tier accurization without requiring the extensive services of a gunsmith and hours of fitting. Instead, a radial bushing, frame tightener, breech pin, Bo-Mar rear sight, and other internal improvements brought the level of fit required for extreme accuracy. Other features include standard rollmarks, added "Pachmayr Signature Model" on right side of slide, polished narrow spurred hammer, short serrated trigger, Pachmayr wraparound grips, Pachmayr rubber mainspring housing, left only grip safety. This specimen is particularly desirable because it is one of the extremely rare .38 Super Signatures, with less than 5 speculated to have been manufactured. Adding to this already very scarce gun is the accompanying paperwork indicating that the gun was purchased from J.D. Jones, the famed wildcatter who founded SKK Industries and had significant developmental interest in the Thompson Contender. Accompanying this very rare gun is both the Colt factory box and the Pachmayr invoice to J.D. Jones by serial number, photos of Jones shooting this gun off the hood of a car, and an article penned by J.D. Jones about this gun. The Colt box contains the original Colt .38 Super barrel, a patent drawing of the gun, test targets, and small tools. CONDITION: Very good, retaining nearly all of the Pachmayr bluing with strong legends and some minor marks from handling and use throughout. Some marks on high edges, most particularly noticeable on the frame accurizing bracket. Mechanically excellent, bore is excellent with strong rifling. Box is very good with some age-related distress and some lifting of the paper from where tape was removed long ago. A high condition and very rare handgun. EMW
