Lot consists of: (A) Based on the British 1821-pattern light cavalry sword, this circa 1840s Spanish light cavalry saber features an unadorned slightly curved single fullered blade. The ricasso is marked "BALLESTEROS FCA DE ARMAS TOLEDO” on the obverse and "1150 / AE" on the reverse. The sword also features steel guard and knucklebow, and a grooved wood handle wrapped in ray skin with double twisted wire that fits nicely in the grooves. The sword is complete with its steel scabbard that features 1 mount with carry ring and a drag. CONDITION: The blade is bright and exhibits evidence of cleaning as well as areas of pitting. The steel components of the handle exhibit a chocolate patina. The scabbard also exhibits a chocolate patina and exhibits pitting and surface rust. Overall good. Includes miniature sword in good condition. (B) The Model 1902 Army Officer's Saber is the current sword used by officers of the United States Army. This example features a slightly curved blade which is decorated with scrollwork and patriotic motifs. This example has a very nice 4-bar nickel-plated handguard, with a brown composite grip with finger grooves. A leather sword knot is wrapped around the knucklebow. The sword is complete with its nickel-plated scabbard which features 2 mounts with carry rings and a hanger which is marked "RUSTPROOF / FRANCE". CONDITION: The blade remains bright with light areas of spotting. The guard exhibits spotting. Grip exhibits light blemishes. The scabbard exhibits scratches and blemishes as well as one significant dent. Overall good. Includes miniature sword in good condition. JLD
